The West Australian Quilters' Association
Services
-
Challenge Quilts
- Challenges are held regularly to
encourage members to extend their personal skills. As they are usually a
maximum of 50cm wide x 70cm long it is a good way to try something
different without over committing. Challenge quilts are usually displayed
at our QuiltWest Exhibition as a group and it is always interesting seeing
the variety of interpretations on the same theme. Contact
Julie Wilkinson for
details. More information can be found on the
Challenge Quilts page.
-
- Community Affairs
- Members visit Retirement Villages,
Hospices and Hospitals to share quilts and experiences.
-
-
Community Quilts
- WAQA
members regularly make quilts both large and small for various hospitals,
hospices, refuges and events such as the Canberra Bushfire Relief. In
2003 there were 329 quilts donated - these included Blankets of Love, lap
quilts and full-size quilts. Contact Alison Scott via the
Webmaster for
details. You can see some pictures of the quilts on the
Community page.
-
- Exhibitions
- The WAQA hold a general
exhibition called "QuiltWest" every year, currently in conjunction
with the Craft & Quilt Fair. This exhibition covers all types of
patchwork and quilting and is open to all members. Judging is optional
and entrants indicate on their form whether or not they wish it. In
addition, there is a separate biennial exhibition called "Stitched &
Bound" which is for contemporary quilts.
-
- Friendship Days
- These are run as individual
events by various groups in and around Perth. Some hold a Friendship Day
once a year, some every month. The hostess group usually charges a small
fee to cover morning tea and you take your own lunch (sometimes they
provide lunch too). The usual format is to have Show & Tell after lunch.
Most Friendship Days start at approximately 10am and go through to about
3pm. For catering and seating purposes you usually need to let them know
you're coming. For more information see the
Calendar
-
- Judges
- WAQA runs a
Judge Accreditation Programme. Other organisations may request WAQA
judges for their events.

- The Quilters' Quarterly (QQ) is
published in March, June, September and December and sent by mail to
members of the WAQA. The QQ is a black & white A4-size magazine of
approximately 30 pages with a glossy cover. If you would like an article
included in the QQ contact the
QQ Editor.
Submission deadlines are noted on the Calendar page.
-

responsibilities with friends who share the love of quilting. An
