The
The West Australian Quilters' Association
Stitched and Bound 2006
Held at the Fremantle Arts Centre, 1 Finnerty Street,
Fremantle, Western Australia.
29 July to 3 September 2006
The sixth in a
series of juried exhibitions presented by the West Australian Quilters’
Association, stitched and bound 2006, displayed an exciting collection of
uniquely fascinating and original contemporary quilts by Western Australian
makers. On view in the Main Gallery, this diverse collection included works that
touched on personal themes, explored the concept of a quilt, and took
traditional techniques and materials in non-traditional directions.
Timelines,
presented in celebration of the West Australian Quilters’ Association’s 30th
anniversary, offered a glimpse at the personal story of Marjorie Coleman, an
acclaimed pioneer of Australian contemporary quiltmaking whose path is closely
intertwined with the association. Timelines was on view in the Hall Gallery.
Exhibiting artists shared the diverse sources of
inspiration and working methods behind their work in floor talks held over two
days in August.
