Community Quilts

Making Community Quilts is a major activity within WAQA every year.  Some members make complete quilts in various sizes as required, while others make just the quilt tops which are then sandwiched and quilted by different members at Community Quilt Sewing Days.  Quilts are donated to patients of King Edward Memorial Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and oncology and haematology patients at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, and the Royal Flying Doctor Service amongst others.   Contact us if you would like to be involved.

Guidelines

Humidicrib Covers
There are special restrictions for the humidicrib covers. They need to be 16 inches wide by 24 inches long for KEMH. They can be made from any material, cotton, cotton/poly blend or flannelette with a reasonably light batting. The overall quilt needs to be light in weight. while the backing of the quilt should be a light pastel colour (even plain beige / white calico is fine). The front of the quilt can be any colour.

Blankets of Love
These little blankets are often given to parents who have had a still born child.  The quilts can be any pattern or colour as the parents choose the quilt they like and tastes vary.  The blankets can be anything between 10" square to 24" square.

Cot quilts, Lap Quilts, Bed Quilts
These quilts can be any size as the smaller ones can lay on top of the bed or cot and the larger ones can be tucked in. Quilts are given to people of varying ages so a quilt of any pattern will find someone who will treasure it.

RFDS Quilts
These quilts should measure 36" by 36" for adults, 24" by 24" for children. Weight and size must be considered for use on the planes.

Feely Hearts and Teddys
These are made from any fabric with a good feel to it eg polar fleece, satin, silk. They must not be over-filled as they need to be pliable in the hand. Patterns for a heart and teddy are here (you will need Acrobat Reader to open the pattern).
