 The West Australian Quilters' Association

2008 Annual Quilt Challenge

Introduction
Each year WAQA issues a challenge to all members to create a quilt interpreting a theme. The quilts are then used as a travelling exhibition for 12 months. They are loaned to associations and groups within WA and interstate and are shown at Quilt West. They are also exhibited on sewing day and night during the Christmas parties.
Works from previous years can be viewed via the Galleries page.

"Inspired by a song title or piece of music"

The 2008 Quilt Challenge relates to music and can be inspired by a song title or lyric.  If you haven't made a challenge quilt before, now is a good time to start!  Maybe you can brainstorm in your sewing group to make a starry quilt or use skills you learn in one of our workshops to inspire you.

Entry forms are due to Debbie Cox by the end July 2008.   Completed quilts to be submitted to Debbie during August 2008.  The quilts are made available to tour interstate quilt groups and will be returned to their owners in September 2009.

(The entry form is in the December and March QQ or email us and we will send you one).

General Information

Criteria:
The quilt must be no greater than 50cm wide by 70cm long with a  hanging sleeve the full width of the quilt and minimum depth of 6.5cm (2½“).

Entries can include 2 dimensional quilts and small articles other than quilts as long as they fit the size limits and can be packed flat in the travel case.

The quilt can be hand and/or machine worked and can include: piecing, applique, embroidery and embellishments
(beads etc.)

The quilt should have a  label on the back with Quilter’s name, address, phone number and the quilt title (not the challenge title).

We encourage quilters of all levels of skill to enter as the quilts are not formally judged and it is wonderful to see how many different interpretations we can get from a single theme.  We are very proud to have a display of work that represents the full range of our membership.

Exhibition Loan:
The exhibition can be loaned to groups or associations within Australia for short periods.  WAQA pays the postage both ways within WA and one way interstate.  If your group would like to arrange to borrow the challenge quilts, bookings can be made by contacting the Quilt Challenge Convenor, Debbie Cox, by phone on (08) 9342 4334.
